The Closure and Temporary Library
Why was the original location closed?
The original location was closed due to a vehicle crashing through the library building, rendering it unsafe for the public or staff.
Where is the current library location?
The current temporary location of Fraser Public Library is 15260 15 Mile Road, Fraser, MI 48026.
Is the current location permanent?
Our current location is temporary while extensive building repairs and remodeling are done at the original location.
What is the current status of Fraser Public Library's original building on 14 Mile Road?
Fraser Public Library's original building on 14 Mile Road is currently undergoing inspections due to significant deficiencies that require repair. The full extent of these needed repairs and updates is not yet known. We expect to have more detailed information in the coming weeks, once the inspection report is complete. We will keep the community updated as we receive additional information.
Services and Collection
How much of our collection is available at the library?
We have about 45% of our collection available at the library currently. Patrons are able to search for items through our catalog for all items available for circulation within the co-op.
Where is the rest of the library collection?
We have the rest of our collection in storage while we are at our smaller temporary location.
Does the library offer all the services Fraser Public Library offered before?
The Library is continuing to offer all or most of the same services as before, despite the accident. The list of services can be found on our website. However, due to limited space and being in a different location, we are currently unable to offer garden rentals.
Funding and the Bond
Why is the millage funding not being used to fix the building?
The millage will be used for repairs once we get a bond from the City of Fraser to cover the entire cost of repairs and remodeling immediately and we can repay the bond over time.
What is the millage funding being used for?
We are currently using some of the millage funding to increase our programming and making technological improvements. We are also finding ways to offer more services to our patrons in the temporary location, such as additional databases and easing access to the internet, even outside of the library. We now have Wi-Fi hotspots and laptop kits (along with hotspots) that Fraser residents can borrow.
