Fraser Public Library Re-opening for Curbside Pick-up After Being Closed for 2 Months

FRASER, Mich., – The Fraser Public Library will re-open for curbside pick-up beginning June 9.

The Fraser Public Library, which closed March 24, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, is ready to welcome patrons back for curbside pick-up.

“We are opening to curbside pick-up only for the time being as we work to get adjusted to our new safety protocols to protect both our staff and patrons,” said Library Director Lorena McDowell. “We hope to continue moving in the right direction and open up our building, but for now, we’re just happy to get books back out to the community.”

The Fraser Public Library, much like the State of Michigan, has a six-phase re-opening plan approved by the library board to help slow the spread of COVID-19, which can be found on their website fraserpubliclibrary.org.

For patrons ready to checkout books, the library asks they do the following:

  • To checkout a book or pick-up a hold, please call the library at (586) 293-2055 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A librarian will assist you and the library staff will grab your items for you.
  • When you arrive at the library, remain in your car and please call the library again to tell a staff member you’re outside along with your car model.
  • A staff member will roll your items out on a cart. Please allow the staff member to step 6 feet away before getting out and grabbing your materials.
  • Masks must be worn at all times.
  • Any books being brought back to the library must be placed in the book drop before or after the staff member comes outside. We will not accept returns on the cart for safety reasons.

FPL assures patrons that all returned materials are being properly sanitized and quarantined to prevent the spread of the virus.

The executive order which allows FPL to return to curbside pick-up comes at a perfect time with the Summer Reading Club starting on June 20. Patrons can expect to register on the Fraser Public Library website and track their reading digitally this year. There will also be follow along activities and crafts video patrons can participate in from the comfort of their home.

At this time, MELCat is not operating.

For patrons who wish to remain home, our online databases are available, and can be helpful for finding ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines.
